The FTN_0818 gene required for Francisella virulence is involved in biotin metabolism. This protein named BioJ is the enzyme of the biotin biosynthesis pathway that determines the chain length of the biotin valeryl side-chain. It is the functionnal equivalent of BioH although it shows low homology to BioH. Other strains: Francisella tularensis (subsp. tularensis (SCHU S4 / Schu 4; MA00-2987; WY96-3418; NE061598; FSC033; FSC 198), holarctica (LVS; FSC022; FTNF002-00 / FTA; 257; OSU18), novicida (U112), mediasiatica (FSC147)), Francisella novicida (FTG; GA99-3548; FTE; GA99-3549)
