Abstract :

Carbamate pesticides, including carbofuran (CF) and methiocarb (MTC), are highly toxic, inhibiting acetylcholinesterase and butyrylcholinesterase, which causes neurotoxicity in animals and endocrine and reproductive disorders in humans. CF bioaccumulates, severely affecting the nervous system and aquatic life. Therefore, rapid and cost-effective detection methods are crucial for monitoring and controlling these toxic compounds in food and environmental systems. Therefore, in this work, cation and anion vacancies in NiFe layered double hydroxide (LDH) were engineered to enhance electrocatalytic oxidation performance. By integrating metal and oxygen vacancies, we modified NiFeSn-LDH for highly sensitive simultaneous detection of CF and MTC. X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy (XPS) confirmed the presence of cation and oxygen vacancies from Sn Integration. The modified NiFeSn-LDH exhibited ultra-low detection limits of 9.31 nM (CF) and 10.71 nM (MTC) individually, and 7.37 nM (CF) and 8.54 nM (MTC) for simultaneous detection, with recoveries above 96 % in real samples.
