Carboxyesterases activate aryloxyphenoxypropionate (AOPP) graminicides to their bioactive herbicidal acids by hydrolysing the respective ester precursors. Some are alpha/beta hydrolases other are SGNH hydrolases (Cummins et al. Hongming et al.)
