Gossypol

Gossypol is a polyphenolic toxic secondary metabolite derived from cotton. Insecticide.. Free gossypol in cotton meal is remarkably harmful to animals. Derived primarily from unrefined cottonseed oil, gossypol induces cell cycle arrest at the G0/G1 phase, thereby inhibiting DNA replication and inducing apoptosis. Inhibits cell-signaling enzymes, resulting in inhibition of cell growth, and may act as a male contraceptive.Gossypol permeates cells and acts as an inhibitor for several dehydrogenase enzymes. It has also long been known to possess atimalarial properties
