Permeable lipophilic ester prodrug. Pivaloyloxymethyl prodrug of ERJ (ERJ is a DXR (1-deoxy-D-xylulose-5-phosphate reductoisomerase inhibitor). Parasite-internalized APEH plays an important role in the activation of substrates with branching at the alpha carbon, in keeping with its exopeptidase activity
