Amos Bairoch (22 November 1957 - 29 November 2025) was a Swiss bioinformatician and Professor of Bioinformatics at the Department of Human Protein Sciences of the University of Geneva. He started an annotated protein sequence database Swiss-Prot which was first released in July 1986. He developed and curated some of the most widely used knowledgebases on proteins, including UniProt, neXtProt as well as on cell-lines with Cellosaurus. His most important contribution is the input of human knowledge by careful manual annotation in protein-related data
