Capsular polysaccharide (CPS) is the major virulence factor of Nessaria meningentidis and serves for raising potent vaccines. The repeating unit [->6)-alpha-D-ManNAc-(1->OPO3-->] is O-acetylated at position C3 and C4 in Nm serogroup A (NmA-CPS). O-acetyltransferase CsaC (MynC) is responsible for the acetylation.
