Phosphodiesterase (PDE) inhibitors are drugs that block PDE enzymes, preventing the breakdown of cyclic AMP (cAMP) and cyclic GMP (cGMP), which increases these signaling molecules within cells, causing effects like smooth muscle relaxation and vasodilation, used for conditions like erectile dysfunction (PDE5 inhibitors), COPD (PDE4 inhibitors), and heart failure (PDE3 inhibitors).
