Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Pseudomonas sp., rhamnosyltransferase 1 subunit a (EC 2.4.1.-) RhlA
Other strains: Pseudomonas aeruginosa (strains PA7\; UCBPP-PA14\; C3719\; 2192\; LESB58) Pseudomonas sp. DHT2. The biosurfactant 3-(3-hydroxyalkanoyloxy)alkanoic acid (HAA) is the hydrophobic moiety of rhamnolipids and most often consists of two hydroxy fatty acids linked by an ester bond. rhlA genes encoding the acyltransferase responsible for the synthesis of the lipophilic rhamnolipid precursor 3-(3-hydroxyalkanoyloxy)alkanoic acid (HAA) (found only in Betaproteobacteria and Gammaproteobacteria or by horizontal gene transfer in Actinobacteria). Acyl-carrier protein (ACP)-activated hydroxy fatty acids are the preferred substrate for RhlA. The carbon chain lengths of HAAs determine their abilities to foam and emulsify, and their critical micelle concentration (CMC). Their chain lengths are determined by RhlA structure
