Catalyzes the hydrolysis of N-formyl-L-kynurenine to L-kynurenine, the second step in the kynurenine pathway of tryptophan degradation. Required for elimination of toxic metabolites. Normal hepatocyte expresses high levels of AFMIDFL isoform, and tryptophan can be converted to NAD+ for PARPs to fix DNA damage
